PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Spring-cleaning time is here, and as customers get their homes ready, PECO encourages them to consider replacing traditional light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). These bulbs, and other energy saving products are available at discounted prices at the companys Online Energy Store. The campaign is part of PECOs efforts to help consumers conserve electricity and save money.

CFLs are more energy efficient than conventional incandescent light bulbs, using up to 75 percent less electricity and lasting up to 10 times longer, while producing the same amount of light. CFLs also produce less heat than traditional bulbs and therefore can cut down on the cost of cooling a home. By replacing a 60-watt traditional bulb with a 13-watt CFL, consumers can save more than $30 during the life of the bulb.

We would like to encourage our customers to replace their old light bulbs with the more energy-efficient CFL, said Denis OBrien, president and CEO of PECO. We are constantly looking for ways to help our customers conserve energy, protect the environment and ultimately save money. CFLs are just one more tool we can all use to increase our energy efficiency.

PECO customers can visit the Online Energy Store to purchase energy-saving products, including CFLs at a 20 percent discount. To purchase energy-saving products, learn more about PECOs conservation efforts and get tips on saving energy, customers can visit www.peco.com/save.

Based in Philadelphia, PECO is an electric and natural gas utility subsidiary of Exelon Corporation (NYSE: EXC). PECO serves 1.6 million electric and 480,000 natural gas customers in southeastern Pennsylvania and employs about 2,500 people in the region. PECO delivered 78.5 billion cubic feet of natural gas and 39.9 billion kilowatt-hours-hours of electricity in 2007. Founded in 1881, PECO is one of the Greater Philadelphia Region's most active corporate citizens, providing leadership, volunteer and financial support to numerous arts and culture, education, environmental, economic development and community programs and organizations.

PECO, a company dedicated to finding innovative ways to reduce its carbon footprint, would like to remind its customers of the importance of practicing conservation efforts in their day-to-day activities. In 2010, the cap on the rate of electricity, which was put in place through state legislation in 1996, will expire and due to the ever increasing demand for energy and rise in fuel, labor and operations costs, the cost to produce energy continues to rise. It is important for everyone to play a part in reducing the demand for energy. Conservation measures and tools can be found at www.peco.com/save.
