MWV to Showcase Leading Packaging Solutions for the Consumer Electronics Industry at the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show
Tue Dec 9, 8:36 AMRICHMOND, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MeadWestvaco Corporation (NYSE: MWV) will exhibit at the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), January 8-11, in Las Vegas. MWV’s booth (#30352) will be located in the South Hall, Level 3, #13 of the Las Vegas Convention Center and will feature many of its award-winning packaging solutions and products ideal for the consumer electronics industry, including the latest version of its environment friendly, paperboard-based Natralock® security packaging solution. Natralock is a sustainable alternative to traditional hard-to-open, plastic clamshells and has been selected by leading brands including SanDisk.
“Packaging presents an enormous value to the consumer electronics market – an industry that must simultaneously address counterfeiting, tampering and theft, and ensure clear visibility of the product and brand,” said Jeff Kellogg, vice president, Natralock security packaging, MWV. “As an end-to-end packaging solutions provider, we have the capabilities to develop solutions that target our customers’ specific needs – from security to sustainability to shaping and strengthening brands – without compromise. CES is an excellent platform for MWV to meet customers and demonstrate that packaging needs to be part of the product development process and not an afterthought.”
The new Natralock packaging solution features an added layer of security with conductive ink technology that emits an audible sound or “alarm” when the package is tampered with or if the ink circuit is broken. Natralock is made from sustainably sourced paperboard and uses 60 percent less plastic on average than clamshells, and effectively protects the product without compromising visibility or security, offering a sensible solution to bundles of wires or fish bowl-like plastic cases.
“We chose Natralock as a replacement to the standard clamshell because of its premium appearance, sustainability and superior usability,” said Joey Haber, president of The NCC. “Currently, several of our products are packaged in Natralock; our Westinghouse and Stanley Tool lines will have over 50 products packaged in Natralock by the end of 2009.”
MWV will also feature Klearfold®, a visual packaging solution made from APET, RPET with 25 percent post-consumer recycled content, Engineered Packaging, an innovative package concept which provides a more efficient, cost effective and sustainable approach to traditional corrugated packaging. Featured materials will include MWV’s leading renewable and recyclable paperboard products, ideal for a variety of consumer electronic packaging needs.
Other featured solutions at CES will include SmartShelf®, an advanced technology system that records data on which packaging receives the most interaction and interest on the shelf; and radio-frequency identification, anti-counterfeiting technologies and interactive packages that make packaging more functional, durable and secure.
