Canadian Tire in Sarnia, Ont., offers to match prices with U.S. retailers

SARNIA, Ont. - The Canadian Tire store in the border city of Sarnia, Ont., says it will match prices with U.S. retailers, effective immediately.

Owner Peter Ansley says he's trying to keep customers from crossing the border to spend their money.

The Sarnia store is the only one in the Canadian Tire chain taking the price-matching approach at this time.

Retail giants Wal-Mart Canada and Zellers announced similar plans this week, saying they were pressing their suppliers so they could pass along savings to consumers.

But some border-city shoppers have found significantly different prices on the same product in Wal-Mart stores in Canada and the U.S.
