TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (Up 231.58 points to 13,530.65)

Petaquilla Copper Ltd. (TSX: PTC.TO). Mining. Even at $2.18 with 12,053,107 shares traded. On Tuesday accepted a revised $330-million takeover offer from Inmet Mining Corp. (TSX: IMN.TO).

Uranium One Inc. (TSX: UUU.TO). Uranium mining. Up 29 cents or 7.5 per cent to $4.15 with 11,123,990 shares traded.

Sherritt International Corp. (TSX: S.TO). Diversified resources. UP 44 cents or 4.9 per cent at $9.35 with 7,442,768 shares traded. The TSX base metals sector was up 2.2 per cent on the day.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX: BBD-B.TO). Transportation manufacturing. Up 11 cents or 1.5 per cent at $7.62 with 6,157,293 shares traded.

Gold Eagle Mines Ltd. (TSX: GEA.TO). Mining. Up 11 cents or 0.9 per cent at $11.94 with 5,283,662 shares traded.

Opti Canada Inc. (TSX: OPC.TO). Oilsands. Up 27 cents or 1.5 per cent at $18.16 with 4,878,843 shares traded.

TSX Venture Exchange (Up 7.32 points to 1,949.92)

Glass Earth Gold Ltd. (TSXV: GEL.V). Mining. UP one cent or 25 per cent to five cents with 5,720,200 shares traded.

OneMove Technologies Inc. (TSXV: OM.V). Real estate software. Up one cent or 7.7 per cent to seven cents with 4,451,000 shares traded.

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. (TSX: CM.TO). Major bank.Up $3.04 or 5.3 per cent to $60.10 with 4,161,255 shares traded. Bank posted a $71 million profit in the third quarter, despite some writedowns in its credit business.

Maple Leaf Foods Inc. (TSX: MFI.TO). Food processing. Up 30 cents or 3.8 per cent to $8.29 with 2,557,922 shares traded. CEO Michael McCain accepted responsibility on behalf of copmpany for the sale and distribution of Listeria-tainted meat, which has been linked to an ongoing cross-Canada outbreak of listeriosis.

AbitibiBowater Inc. (TSX: ABH.TO). Forestry. Up 15 cents or 2.3 per cent to $6.83 49,921 shares traded. Unveiled a plan to union officials to slash jobs at its Grand Falls-Windsor plant in Newfoundland as part of an effort to avoid closing the high-cost facility.
