PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Regulatory News:

More than 35,000 Sodexo (PARIS: SW.PA) (OTCBB: SDXAY.OB) employees in 20 countries across five continents took part in this year’s “Servathon,” Sodexo’s global initiative to help people affected by hunger and malnutrition through fundraising and food distribution. Now in its 12th year, Servathon is part of Sodexo’s global STOP Hunger program, launched in the United States in 1996 by CEO Michel Landel.

This year’s campaign included Sodexo teams in twelve new countries where the company operates who joined with thousands of fellow Sodexo employees to help disadvantaged people in their communities throughout the month of April. New participating countries included Peru, the Czech Republic, Malaysia and Colombia.

In total, Sodexo employees helped collect more than 100,000 kilograms of food during this year’s Servathon. Among the numerous initiatives undertaken:

  • in Colombia, dozens of volunteers provided support to a food bank in Bogotá to help manage the distribution of over 900,000 products;
  • in the United States, employees collected large stocks of food as well as $70,000 USD in donations for the Sodexo Foundation and thousands of dollars more for other food assistance organizations;
  • in Canada, employees prepared meals and collected more than five tons of food;
  • at Sodexo headquarters in Issy-les-Moulineaux, France, the 400 employees gathered more than 4,000 food and hygiene products for donation to a local food bank to help community families in need.

The level of participation in this year’s Servathon reflects a strong response from employees to CEO Michel Landel’s call in April to "help create a world that does not experience hunger or malnutrition.”

At a time when hunger and malnutrition afflict over one billion people, Sodexo is committed to pursuing the fight against hunger in countries throughout the world where it operates. The STOP Hunger program, of which the annual Servathon is a part, is now present in 25 countries and includes partnerships with 223 local NGOs and associations active in the battle against hunger. Nearly 300 major initiatives have so far been conducted across four principal areas: volunteering, providing training and information on nutrition, food distribution and fundraising.
