Trellia Accelerates 3G Adoption for Bell Mobility's Enterprise Customers

MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Trellia Networks (www.trellia.com) a provider of seamless mobility software and Bell Mobility, today announced accelerated adoption of 3G deployments in the enterprise. Business customers looking to enhance the productivity of their mobile workforce are increasingly turning to Bell’s 3G network for anywhere access to corporate resources. One recently deployed customer, Export Development Canada, expects seven digit productivity gains and significant cost reductions from its new mobile workforce platform which includes Bell’s 3G network and Smart Connect. To improve 3G usability and minimize costs, Bell Mobility is offering Smart Connect by Trellia alongside its data cards. The solution delivers a seamless mobile experience, while enabling IT to enforce connectivity policies and ensure cost effective 3G use.

“The solution allows EDC’s mobile workforce to enjoy seamless mobility in a secure and managed fashion. It enabled a user-friendly convergence of the office LAN, office Wi-Fi, home network, public Wi-Fi and Global 3G networks which was not previously possible.” says Dave McNulty, Telecommunications and Desktop Services Manager for Export Development Canada.

Although many organizations are considering 3G, they often hesitate to deploy due to network access and IT support cost issues. With a cost per MB for plan overages and the potential for international roaming fees, organizations worry about the financial liability of widely deploying 3G to their workforce. The inability of IT departments to enforce the selection by their users of the most cost-effective network between LAN, Wi-Fi or 3G in a given location is also a major concern. From a support perspective, 3G requires a variety of proprietary connection utilities to make each type of data card work. This added complexity raises user training, deployment and ongoing IT support costs.

Bell’s Smart Connect eliminates these issues by providing a single solution to address notebook connectivity and related policy enforcement for LAN, Wi-Fi and 3G. The solution automatically connects mobile workers to the most cost-effective network available. It also applies relevant security policies such as VPN use, proxy settings, bridging prevention and permissions based access. Unlike other connectivity software, Smart Connect features a centrally controlled IT policy manager. This console allows remote deployment, management and support of all aspects of mobile workforce connectivity. By giving IT departments control and automating device level connectivity, users benefit from a seamless experience in compliance with corporate policies.

“Trellia is doing a great job of removing common barriers to 3G adoption”, says Karim El Marazi, Bell’s Senior Director of Data Solutions. “By putting control of cost management and security back in the hands of IT, organizations are deciding to deploy. The solution’s ability to simplify all network connectivity for mobile workers is enabling Bell to add value beyond its leading 3G service, and differentiate with other offerings in the market.”

“Our success with Bell Mobility’s enterprise customers validates the need to simplify management of connectivity and related policies for mobile workers across all networks” says Giovanni Forte, Trellia’s President & CEO. “By making all aspects of connectivity seamless for the end user we improve the mobile experience and dramatically reduce IT support costs.”
