Zhone Introduces ETHX 3100 Series with Pseudo-Wire (PWE) for Immediate OPEX Savings on T1/E1 for QoS Sensitive Voice, Video and Mobile Backhaul
Mon Nov 2, 9:22 AMOAKLAND, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE), a global leader in network access solutions, announced today its ETHX 3100 Series platforms with Pseudo-wire Edge-to-Edge Emulation (PWE3) enabling operators to migrate TDM applications onto a converged packet network for simpler network management and immediate OPEX savings. The 3100 series Ethernet Access Devices (EADs) provide enhanced Virtual LAN support with Quality of Service (QoS) for the most latency sensitive voice and video services, making it ideal for 3G/4G mobile backhaul and T1/E1 leased line applications. Designed for simplified deployment at the user site, the 3100 series with PWE preserves existing PBX and TDM equipment investments and is cost optimized to provide operators fast return on investment.
MEF18 certified and based on the latest IEEE 802.3ah EFM standard for SHDSL, the 3100 series enables up to 48 Mbps over four copper pairs and supports IP, MPLS and MEF encapsulation. The ETHX 3100s support a variety of clock recovery techniques (Adaptive, Synchronous, and Differential) and comply with the stringent clock accuracy requirements defined by the ITU-T G.8261 specification.
“Our 3100 series gives operators a very quick win by eliminating the cost of high-end T1 or E1 lines without sacrificing quality,” said Steven Glapa, VP of product marketing and management for Zhone. “In the US alone, out of a quarter-million existing cell towers, more than 200,000 are still copper fed making the opportunity even more immediate for operators as the rapid rise in cellular traffic demands higher-bandwidth backhaul.”
Today, Zhone also introduced the ETHX-3140, a four port EAD without pseudowire emulation for pure IP environments. The ETHX-3100 and 3140 can be configured and managed via Zhone’s ZMS, or a simple web interface for point and click configuration.
“With the introduction of the 3100 series, Zhone continues to build out a well-rounded EFM portfolio which will drive incremental revenue generation for operators, as well as faster times to ROI,” said Erik M. Keith, Principal Analyst for Broadband Infrastructure at Current Analysis. “The EFM over bonded copper sector represents an extremely strong growth opportunity, and Zhone’s PWE solution is a timely offering given the broadband stimulus initiative and the explosive demand for mobile backhaul.”
