Active Power and Sun Microsystems to Deliver Joint Presentation at AFCOM Data Center World Fall 2008
Mon Oct 6, 1:00 PMAUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Critical backup power systems manufacturer Active Power, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACPW) and Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ: JAVA) announced today Martin Olsen, vice president, Business Development for Active Power and Maurice Cloutier, Sunâs Modular Datacenter (MD) product group marketing manager will deliver a joint presentation at AFCOM Data Center World Fall 2008, at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort and Convention Center on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 3:15 p.m.
In the presentation, Olsen and Cloutier will draw together three strands of operational and environmental issues in the corporate data center and discuss how the virtual data center with containerized power and cooling architecture can provide operators a breakthrough in economics and eco responsibility. The presentation will discuss effective ways for operators to âgreenâ their operations and how these approaches can translate into operational savings in the order of 55 percent and up to 45 percent in savings in total cost of ownership.
In late June of this year, Active Power announced that Sun Microsystems had identified and approved its PowerHouse system, a containerized power and cooling infrastructure solution to complement the Sun MD. PowerHouse is a complete and continuous power and cooling solution that can include a standby generator, high efficiency flywheel based UPS systems, chiller and switchgear. By offering PowerHouse in conjunction with the Sun MD, this makes Sun and Active Power the first two companies to bring a modularized data center and the associated mission critical power and cooling infrastructure to market. Other server OEMs have followed Sun with containerized data centers, but few have effectively solved the issue of the ability to provide a mobile power and cooling solution anywhere in the world.
