TAGSYS Donates RFID Systems to Merrimack College
Mon Oct 6, 8:01 AMBURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--TAGSYS, the global leader in item-level RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) infrastructure, announced their donation of over $60,000 in RFID equipment to Merrimack College. The donated equipment helps establish an RFID and Automatic IDentification (Auto ID) technology laboratory at the only college in the country to include RFID coursework as a core requirement for an electrical engineering undergraduate degree.
âMerrimack anticipates continued widespread adoption of RFID in item-level tracking, and we are extremely grateful to TAGSYS for their generous donation,â said Dr. Ronald Champagne, president of Merrimack College. âMerrimack students now have the opportunity to learn actively on the latest RFID technology that will provide them with superior hands-on experience and unmatched preparation for their professional lives. This in turn will allow us to deliver highly-qualified RFID candidates to the field.â
TAGSYS donated a combination of high frequency (HF) and ultra high frequency (UHF) tags, readers, antennas and application stations to Merrimackâs RFID/Auto ID lab, located in the Mendel Center for Science, Engineering, and Technology. Together with the equipment, TAGSYS also donated RFID âdemonstration stationsâ to help students learn firsthand how RFID is used to track items in manufacturing and supply chain applications in industries such as: libraries, textile services, apparel retail, luxury goods, and pharmaceutical/health care.
âTAGSYS is pleased to help Merrimack College offer the only undergrad RFID course in the country,â said Bill Stuek, TAGSYS CEO. âAs we anticipate increased demand for RFID technology in all industries, itâs imperative that we have qualified RFID professionals to support this growth. This is a mutually beneficial opportunity for both TAGSYS and Merrimack by helping prepare the next generation of future RFID professionals.â
