AGNITY Introduces SIPr Open-Source Application Testing Platform for the Creation and Quality Assurance of Converged Communication Services

Tue Oct 7, 9:39 AM

SILICON VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AGNITY, a leading global technology and consulting services firm for communications and enterprise applications, introduced today the SIPrâ„¢ open-source application testing platform for the creation and quality assurance of voice, data, mobile and converged applications.

SIPr (pronounced as Sipper) is built on a simple to use and powerful API which provides an application server style programming model and a range of constructs using the Ruby programming language for writing of complex test cases. SIPr is fully-configurable at each layer of the protocol stack enabling developers to write and verify complex test cases in minutes. Tests are created in an iterative fashion allowing for automation and incremental testing.

SIPr is the most complete open source testing platform available to developers for communication applications supporting end-to-end testing from the network layer to the application layer.

Said AGNITY vice president of engineering Nasir Khan, “Most proprietary, commercial test platforms are not geared to deployment-specific and complex calls flows, or they are too rigid to support the flexibility required for converged and other enhanced services. Our goal with SIPr was to deliver a converged stack so flexible, it could support any scenario the developer could imagine.”

The SIPr API supports various communication applications. Conceptually the API is similar to Java SIP Servlets API, but with richer and more powerful constructs. Any converged application - consisting of SIP, HTTP, Diameter and RTP - can be tested with SIPr. Typical simulation models include:

  • SIP UA, SIP B2BUA
  • SIP Proxy Server, SIP Registrar
  • SIP Subscribe/Notify, SIP MWI
  • IMS/3GPP Enablers
  • HTTP requests and responses in converged tests with SIP
  • RTP Media testing with multiple codecs

AGNITY also announced it plans to launch the rhythm™ open developer community in 4Q 2008 to support software engineers and network equipment manufacturers. Said Khan, “AGNITY is committed to building a robust development community around the SIPr testing platform. It is our hope that rhythm will become a force for innovation in the true spirit of an open source community driving quality in application development.”

SIPr is available for download for free upon registration at http://sipr.agnity.com.
