NovaBay's CEO Featured in Insight Pharma Report

Tue Jul 8, 6:55 AM

EMERYVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dr. Ron Najafi, Chief Executive Officer of NovaBay Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (AMEX: NBY, www.novabaypharma.com), a biopharmaceutical company developing products for the treatment or prevention of a wide range of bacterial, fungal, and viral infections, has been featured in the latest edition of Cambridge Healthtech Institutes Insight Pharma Report.

In the article Dr. Najafi is interviewed by Dr. Leslie Pray of the Cambridge Healthtech Institute and highlights NVC-422, the Companys lead non-antibiotic Aganocide® compound being developed to treat and prevent infections. Titled Antibiotic R&D: Resolving the Paradox Between Unmet Medical Need and Commercial Incentive, the article discusses NovaBays Aganocide compounds as they relate to the problem of antibiotic resistant infections.

NovaBay is honored that the editors of the Insight Pharma Report took such an interest in our research and development of anti-infective compounds, said Dr. Najafi. The interview sheds light on how we are addressing the omnipresent staph infections and particularly the potentially deadly superbug methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteria, an epidemic that, until recently, seems to have been largely unnoticed by the general public. MRSA is now responsible for more deaths than AIDS. Our two partnered industry leaders, Alcon and Kinetic Concepts, recognize the potential our compounds have in attacking a wide spectrum of infections.

About NovaBay Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

NovaBay Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing innovative product candidates targeting the treatment or prevention of a wide range of infections in hospital and non-hospital environments. NovaBay has discovered and is developing a class of non-antibiotic anti-infective compounds, which it has named Aganocide compounds, which are based upon small molecules that are generated by white blood cells that defend the body against invading pathogens. NovaBay believes that Aganocide compounds could form a platform on which to create a variety of products to address differing needs in the treatment and prevention of bacterial and viral infections, including resistant bacteria such as MRSA. NovaBay has entered into a licensing and research collaboration agreement with an affiliate of Alcon, Inc. for use of the Aganocide compounds in the eye, ear and sinus, and in contact lens solutions. The company also has a license agreement with an affiliate of Kinetic Concepts, Inc. for the use of NovaBays NeutroPhase product in wound care applications.

NovaBay, Aganocide®, AgaNase, and NeutroPhase are trademarks of NovaBay Pharmaceuticals, Inc. All other trademarks and trade names are the property of their respective owners.
