Southern Hemisphere Mining Limited: Drilling at El Arrayan Project Intersects Copper Porhyry Mineralization
Fri May 16, 9:30 AMTORONTO, CANADA--(Marketwire - May 16, 2008) - Southern Hemisphere Mining Limited (TSX VENTURE: SH.V) ("Southern Hemisphere" or the "Company"), is pleased to announce that the first two drill holes at its El Arrayan project has intersected copper mineralization confirming the expectation of a copper porphyry.
Exploration work at the company's El Arrayan project, located in the La Serena district of Region IV in central-northern Chile, commenced in March 2008 and has involved geological mapping, soil sample surveys, drilling and interpretation of ASTER image data. Selected intercepts from the first two holes from the 1140 metre, six hole, Phase 1 reverse circulation drilling program include: First drill hole: - 78m @ 0.96%Copper and 9.4g/t Silver including 40 metres @1.37%Copper and 15.5 g/t Silver Second drill hole - 16m @1.6% Copper and 4.8g/t Silver. Further assays on the remaining 4 holes are awaited. Interpretation of satellite ASTER image data has defined six areas within the El Arryan project with surface alteration characteristics considered prospective for mineralized porphyry systems. Current work includes location and field inspection of ASTER targets, detailed mapping and more detailed soil sampling in the areas defined by the ASTER imaging. All analyses referred to above were completed by ALS Chemex at the La Serena and Perth Laboratories, both of which are accredited analytical facilities. Check and duplicate sample analyses confirmed that all results were within acceptable industry limits for precision and accuracy. The independent ASTER image processing and interpretation was completed by Dr R Agar of Australian Geological & Remote Sensing Services, Perth Australia. Russell Birrell, designated as the qualified person defined by the National Instrument 43-101, prepared the data as described in this release. About Southern Hemisphere Mining Limited Southern Hemisphere is a South American focused resource company focused on exploring for large tonnage copper resources in Chile. The Company currently has four projects in Chile covering approximately 177 km2 of prospective exploration ground covering three mineralized porphyry copper systems. These projects, La Santas, El Arrayan, Mantos Grandes and San Jose, are all located within the Chilean copper belt and in the case of two of the projects are in close proximity to existing large copper or copper /gold mining operations.
