Apptera Taps Henry Vogel, Former eBay and Quigo Executive, as New President and CEO
Tue Sep 16, 7:11 AMSAN BRUNO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apptera, an emerging leader in voice and visual mobile advertising, today announced that its board of directors has elected Henry M. Vogel as the companys new president and chief executive officer. Mr. Vogel, 41, has nearly 20 years experience in digital media and related consumer marketing industries, having served most recently as the chief revenue officer of Quigo Technologies. Mr. Vogel will have responsibility for the companys overall strategy in addition to directing day-to-day operations and leading efforts towards new opportunities in the burgeoning mobile advertising market, a market which is expected to reach $11.4 billion in revenues within two years1.
Mr. Vogel brings to Apptera a wealth of experience and a track record of success at fast growth, consumer Internet companies. Under Vogels leadership as CRO, Quigos AdSonar contextual ad network grew from a few billion to over 25 billion monthly ad impressions before being bought by AOL in December of 2007. Prior to Quigo, Mr. Vogel held numerous executive positions at eBay including vice president of Internet marketing and business development and head of corporate strategy. Prior to eBay, Mr. Vogel spent nearly 14 years at The Boston Consulting Group focused on the consumer goods and retail sector where he gained experience in consumer marketing, branding, retail, sales, operations and corporate development. Mr. Vogel is a graduate of Harvard Business School and Northwestern University.
"On behalf of the entire board, I would like to recognize the efforts of Appteras previous CEO, Marketta Silvera, for her accomplishments in leading the company through the successful transition to this high-growth market and innovative new business model, said Carl Showalter, member of Appteras Board. Henry Vogel is the ideal leader to take Apptera to the next level of growth with his consumer marketing knowledge and experience building innovative ad networks and world-class management teams. We feel fortunate to have someone of Henrys caliber and vision leading the company."
"I am excited by the opportunity to lead Apptera with its experienced management team, robust technology platform and impressive traction in the new mobile advertising industry, Vogel said. Apptera is poised for dramatic growth as it deploys its ground-breaking voice and visual advertising network to create new revenue streams for companies who want to monetize their phone channels and marketers looking to reach consumers and initiate relationships in a highly targeted and effective way.
Apptera marries voice and visual technologies to create advertising opportunities on traditional land lines and mobile handsets. Appteras technology platform offers contextual multimedia promotions to callers when they interact with any touchtone or speech-enabled application. These applications could include services such as airlines flight arrival and departure call centers, pharmacies prescription re-fill ordering services, credit card activation numbers or movie showtime and ticketing services to name but a few.
For example, Apptera and AOL Moviefone recently announced that AOL had selected Apptera to manage and monetize Moviefones 40 million annual calls to 777-FILM. Once the new service powered by Appteras Mobile Ad Xchange is launched later this year, callers will be able to hear sponsorship messages upfront, choose to get reminder calls or text messages when another movie is about to premiere, or elect to receive SMS coupons sent to their cell phone with say a promotional offer from a soft-drink maker that is sponsoring the movie or a restaurant that is near the theater location where they purchased tickets for a show.
