Macro International Awarded APHIA II Evaluation
Mon Nov 17, 10:03 AMCALVERTON, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Macro today announced that it was awarded the $10 million APHIA II Evaluation project. The two-year project with three additional option years is a continuation of the work Macro has led in Kenya under the U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID’s) MEASURE Evaluation cooperative agreement.
The APHIA II Evaluation project is designed to contribute substantively to strengthening Kenya’s monitoring and evaluation framework. Activities will focus on improving and coordinating reporting for U.S. government health assistance (primarily HIV/AIDS but including reproductive health, malaria, and other health issues). The project will strengthen multi-sector, national HIV/AIDS monitoring and evaluation within the traditional health facility reporting systems and within systems of community-based organizations and the education system. Monitoring & evaluation capacity will be built through post-graduate education and by working to fill existing gaps in information through standardizing verbal autopsy and cause of death coding. Better reporting will improve the quality of mortality statistics. In addition, collecting information on populations most at risk for HIV infection will inform the development of programs to lessen those risks.
USAID/Kenya awarded the APHIA II Evaluation project to Macro International Inc. and its partners ESART, the Futures Group International, John Snow Inc., Tulane University, and the University of North Carolina/Chapel Hill. The project will be led by Edward Kunyanga, Chief of Party. The rest of the Nairobi-based team will consist of Shannon Salentine and Samuel Wambugu.
