Rear Adm. John J. Waickwicz (USN, Ret.) named Manager of Alion Navy-focused Business Unit

MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alion Science and Technology, an employee-owned technology solutions company, announced that Rear Adm. John J. Waickwicz (USN, Ret.) has been named Manager of Alions Engineering Technology Center Group (ETCG), which focuses on ship design and engineering for the U.S. and foreign navies.

Alions ETCG provides engineering, oversight and technical services for Navy programs that include Multiplatform Applications of Integrated Power Systems (IPS), OA-9070E Thinline Towed Array handling System, Non-Tactical Data Processing Subsystem (NTDPS) and NAVSEA Shock SIT Technical Support. The Group also provides expertise in composite materials engineering of marine structures.

Waickwicz, who retired from the Navy after 34 years of active duty, joined Alion in March 2008 to help develop strategies for applying the companys expertise to next-generation Navy ships and ship systems. His last post was as Commander, Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Command.

Scott Fry (USN, Ret.), the Alion Sector Senior Vice President who leads the business sector in which ETCG resides, said that naming Waickwicz to his new position benefits both the company and its customers. A career Naval Aviator, Waickwicz received his commission from the U.S. Naval Academy and has served numerous tours at sea and ashore. Prior to command of the Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Command, his most recent assignments include: command of the Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Command, Commander Iceland Defense Force, Chief Joint Requirements Division (J8), Commander Helicopter, Anti-Submarine Wing U.S. Atlantic Fleet and Commander Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron ONE.
