KINGSEY FALLS, QC, June 25 /CNW Telbec/ - The state-owned company, Recyc-Québec, issued a level 3 performance certificate to Cascades for its entire industrial complex in Kingsey Falls. This distinction, the highest of the ICI ON RECYCLE! program, aims to underline all the actions undertaken by Cascades for the responsible management of its residual matter. The Kingsey Falls complex regroups six plants and 11 service units.

The ICI ON RECYCLE! program, a 2003 initiative created by Recyc-Québec, aims to recognize ICI establishments (Industries, Commercial Establishments, Institutions) that have attained the objectives laid out in the evaluation criteria of the program. To obtain a "level 3 performance", Cascades demonstrated that it has implemented measures to reduce, reuse, recycle and manage the beneficial use of residual matter that is contained in the Québec Policy on the Management of Residual Matter (1998-2008). Besides the achievement component, Cascades has also gotten involved in an information and raising awareness component and it is committed to meet with its new employees, every year, to explain the management system in place. We would also like to specify that the "performance" level requires an 80% beneficial use of potential residual matter. The different measures undertaken by Cascades enable a 99.2% beneficial use of potential residual matter. An almost perfect score! Furthermore, to date, only 179 Québec establishments have acquired a level 3 certificate and Cascades owns the only industrial complex to have received this distinction in Québec.

For the past 45 years, Cascades has endeavoured to remain at the forefront with regards to the environment. It is not content to simply comply with current standards, it exceeds them. "This new acknowledgment for the management of residual matter adds to all the actions undertaken to this effect and also reinforces Cascades' status as a leader in environmental protection. We are extremely proud", declared Léon Marineau, Vice-President, Environment at Cascades.

Founded in 1964, Cascades produces, converts and markets packaging and tissue products composed mainly of recycled fibres. Cascades employs nearly 13,000 men and women who work in some 100 modern and flexible production units located in North America and in Europe. Cascades' management philosophy, its more than 40 years of experience in recycling, its continuous efforts in research and development are strengths which enable the company to create innovative products for its customers. The Cascades shares trade on the Toronto stock exchange under the ticker symbol CAS.
