Wed Aug 27, 12:59 PM

NEW YORK, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- AVIATION WEEK, the largest multimedia information and services provider to the global aerospace and defense (A&D) industries, will host a Green Aviation Management Forum on September 23, 2008 at Hotel Novotel Madrid Campo de las Naciones in Madrid, Spain. The Forum will bring together 70 commercial and military operators and airport managers, aircraft manufacturers and suppliers, industry analysts, MRO (maintenance, repair and operations) companies, government officials and environmental NGOs to discuss current issues in "green" aviation, including alternative fuel developments, ways to use green initiatives to aid a company's bottom-line, and a review of new European regulatory mandates and agencies.

The theme of the Forum, "From Hype to Action," aims to bring greater value to green campaigns by focusing on practical strategies that fulfill corporate responsibilities and meet regulatory mandates such as cap-and-trade in Europe and the U.S., while also providing increased business value and efficiency. Industry practitioners will share lessons learned while greening their programs, such as managing objectives and costs and overcoming organizational disruptions and other challenges. Sessions will also cover the EU's "Clean Sky" Joint Technology Initiative, "REACH" chemical regulation, air traffic management in the "Single European Sky" system, near-term advances in engine technology, and the development of Synfuel and other alternative fuel strategies that can help curb costs that are threatening to cost the industry upwards of $40 billion.

Dr. Mark Watson, the head of Corporate Environmental Affairs for the Society of British Aerospace Companies, will deliver opening remarks. Other prominent speakers include representatives from AIR FRANCE KLM Group, Boeing, EUROCONTROL, the European Commission, the FAA, Pratt & Whitney, Rentech, and Rolls-Royce.

Following the Forum, more than 3,000 aviation industry professionals and executives will convene on September 24-25 at AVIATION WEEK's MRO Europe 2008 Conference & Exhibition at the IFEMA Convention Center, also in Madrid.
