CompuCom Systems Partners with Intel to Announce New Support Capabilities for Intel(R) vPro(TM) Technology
Wed Aug 27, 10:04 AMDALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--CompuCom Systems, Inc., a leading IT outsourcing company, today announced that it has developed new support and activation capabilities for Intel® vPro technology as part of an overall workplace automation strategy. Used as part of CompuComs Integrated Infrastructure Management (IIM) solution, this new technology helps reduce IT support costs, enhances security and lowers power consumption.
Additionally, CompuCom recently announced that it completed the acquisition of Getronics North American Operations. The increased capabilities and geographic reach will enable CompuCom to provide seamless, integrated services and solutions such as Intel vPro technology to a more diverse range of companies. By supporting Intel vPro technology, CompuCom clients will gain greater manageability, visibility and enhanced productivity from their workplace environment.
In todays business environment, the task of deploying, maintaining and updating PCs is not only challenging but increasingly complex. When managing PCs, IT organizations spend significant resources on important routine tasks, such as asset tracking, maintenance and updates. Although IT organizations can automate many of these management tasks by using the latest service management software, they cannot currently manage or secure PCs if the power is off, the operating system (OS) is down or if management agents are missing.
First introduced in 2006, PCs with Intel vPro technology include built-in, chip-based capabilities that allow CompuCom to remotely manage, maintain and update PCs that have traditionally been inaccessible from the IT management console. In 2007, Intel expanded this technology to include notebooks with the introduction of Intel Centrino® Pro processor technology that is built on the same technology as Intel vPro technology.
The capabilities in these PCs and notebooks will allow CompuCom to resolve more problems within the first call to the help desk, so that many desk-side visits can be eliminated and service costs can be reduced. With improved remote update capabilities, CompuCom clients will also benefit from better PC stability and security. Users will see less interruption of work, and businesses can reduce losses from user downtime and security threats.
CompuCom will also be able to more effectively conduct asset tracking and eliminate costly manual inventories. With full visibility and remote management of PCs, critical updates and security patches can achieve greater saturation in a shorter period of time. Many traditional desk-side visits for both hardware and software problem resolution can also be eliminated. This translates into reduced service costs and shorter repair and remediation times.
Intel vPro technology enables CompuCom to deliver security and manageability benefits to their customers not otherwise possible, said Gregory Bryant, Intel Vice President, Business Client Group, and General Manager, Digital Office Platform Division. In particular, IT administrators will now be able to access notebooks and desktop computers that are completely unbootable, and bring them back to life, often without dispatching a technician.
At CompuCom, we continually look at and evaluate new technologies that will bring added value to our clients, said John McKenna, Chief Strategy and Services Officer at CompuCom. Intel vPro technology is an exciting new innovation and technology platform where hardware, software and IT services can further collaborate to enable an array of new remotely managed capabilities to increase productivity and reduce the cost of infrastructure management.
CompuCom also today announced the availability of a new white paper, entitled Creating a Highly Optimized Workplace through Automation. The paper discusses how to eliminate siloed management processes, create greater IT alignment and leverage the latest automation tools to simplify the IT infrastructure, lower support costs and create a more productive workplace environment. The paper also provides an in-depth understanding of the new Intel vPro technology and how clients can benefit.
