MONTREAL, Nov. 28 /CNW Telbec/ - CAP REIT provides the following update on the 135 and 155 Deguire Blvd. situation.

Parking garage at 155 Deguire: Shoring has been installed by CAP REIT in the parking garage at 155 Deguire, as a precaution. The shoring has been inspected and approved by Régie du Bâtiment du Québec. CAP REIT representatives are currently removing vehicles from the garage and returning them to their owners. This process should be complete by the evening of November 29. Alternate parking arrangements have been coordinated by CAP REIT with the assistance of the City of Montreal and the Borough of Saint-Laurent, including local street parking and use of nearby tennis courts. Public access to the parking garage remains restricted. Information about when the parking garage of 155 Deguire will be open for normal use is not yet available.

Parking garage at 135 Deguire: The parking garage remains closed and inaccessible to vehicle-owners, as directed by the Régie du Bâtiment du Québec. CAP REIT has been granted access to the garage to remove vehicles from one section of the garage that was not affected by structural damage (approx. 20 per cent of all vehicles). These vehicles will be returned to their owners by the evening of November 29. A plan for shoring of the parking garage at 135 Deguire has been approved, and CAP REIT's contractors are on site, proceeding with this work. Upon completion, inspection and approval of the shoring, additional vehicles (approximately another 30 percent of all vehicles) will be removed and returned to their owners. This process is expected to be complete by early next week. The remaining vehicles are inaccessible. Public access to the parking garage remains restricted. Information about when the parking garage of 135 Deguire will be open for normal use, and when the remaining vehicles can be removed, is not yet available.

Access to apartments at 135 Deguire: Electricity, turned off as a precaution, has been restored to the building, and CAP REIT is in the process of restoring heating, also previously turned off as a precaution. Upon completion of the shoring process for the parking garage at 135 Deguire, residents will be able to regain full and normal access to their apartments. As described above, this process is expected to be complete by early next week. Additional analysis of the parking garage has determined that removal of debris in the garage is not necessary for occupancy of the building to be restored. Until full occupancy has been restored, residents of 135 Deguire, with the assistance of CAP REIT representatives, are being permitted supervised, limited access to their apartments, to retrieve urgently required items such as medication.

Accommodation for residents of 135 Deguire: CAP REIT continues to fund and coordinate alternate accommodation, as well as necessary food and clothing, in cooperation with the Red Cross, for residents of 135 Deguire who have been temporarily displaced. Residents have been provided accommodations in local hotels, and transportation service is being provided by CAP REIT to residents of both 135 and 155 Deguire in the form of shuttles between the hotels, 135/155 Deguire and local transit, as well as vans and drivers for other necessary trips.

Information to residents: Residents of 135 and 155 Deguire are being kept informed of the situation through verbal and written notices delivered door-to-door at the hotels and within 155 Deguire. As well, an information centre manned by CAP REIT representatives has been established in the lobby area of 155 Deguire and will remain active until the situation has been resolved. More than 40 representatives of CAP REIT are part of the response team that is providing information and assistance to residents.
